George W. Bush aka The Batman! Andrew Klavin writes for the Wall Street Journal Opinion page. I came across his article he wrote comparing Pres. Bush to The Batman, Yeah, I thought it was going to be another mean spirited joke. I found it to be insightful and as a friend put it "Spot-On"
Quote:
"Leftists frequently complain that right-wing morality is simplistic. Morality is relative, they say; nuanced, complex. They're wrong, of course, even on their own terms.
Left and right, all Americans know that freedom is better than slavery, that love is better than hate, kindness better than cruelty, tolerance better than bigotry. We don't always know how we know these things, and yet mysteriously we know them nonetheless.
The true complexity arises when we must defend these values in a world that does not universally embrace them -- when we reach the place where we must be intolerant in order to defend tolerance, or unkind in order to defend kindness, or hateful in order to defend what we love."
Anyways, I liked the piece, wanted to share.

Happy Birthday Lee!
"Spot-on"? Must have been a British friend that said that!
I think the the article is wrong in its implication that the makers of the new Batman movie made it a metaphor of the War on Terror. The metaphor is there, but I don't think it was intentional.
Whoo-hoo!
Vigilantly-ism is good!
Shoo, I would agree with you on the intent.
Ronn,
The message that you got out of this article is that "vigianty-ism is good" ???
Curious.
Rob
Alas, no. At the risk of sounding like a liberal, I was being sarcastic.
I am afraid that the idea of someone acting with wanton disregard for the constitution ("it's a piece of paper") to impose their messianic vision with little regard for the lives of the people they insist they are protecting, scares me.
Ronn,
I actually got your sarcasm and was trying to return it. Too dry I guess.
While I don't agree that the Constitution has been wontonly disregarded, it has had some stretching. There is plenty of historical precedent for that with both conservative and liberal agendas though.
I personally like the level of public vigilance out there on matters like this. It would be great if it could be done with less venom though.
You are right. Sorry for the crankiness.
Wow, that sounds surprisingly like the end of most arguments with my wife.
I didn't notice crankiness, but appreciate the discourse. I haven't lost that high school habit of picking the opposite side of an argument just for the fun of seeing where the discussion goes. I just try to restrain when I use it. You caught it this time. :)
P.S. I should have said "...surprisingly like MY COMMENTS at the end of most arguments..."
umkay....
Good "save" Rob... good save....
*ahem*
