It pours

So I have a new job, tech help desk for our county library system. It is a pay cut from my last job, which went bye bye last February. So, we are scaling back and being frugal.

So we had a plan that would slowly build back up our savings and such, still we need to figure out my take home and all that good stuff. So, now the van breaks, and breaks bad. Transmission bad.

*sigh*

On the bright side, with the downturn in housing, all the property values went down, except the tax assessors who determined the values went up. So we have higher property taxes again. Whee.

Don't know about where you live, but here we were able to re-adjust our tax value on the beach house. They accepted the value given on Zillow, even though it isn't necessarily accurate. They are very backlogged with the adjustments so if you have anything at all, they just stamp it through. It'll save us about one third of the property tax and reset the starting value for prop 13 stuff....Don't be afraid to challenges the value at the tax assessor office

So is this a County job? Can you get me free books from the library? Oh wait...

Congrats, Lee on your job. I'm still looking for a job. That's good advice from flyingvan: talk to the tax assessor and rage against the machine. That's just not right.

Actually I'm not much on rage. My tactic is to befriend the people that are the machine and do some gentle steering, along with some networking. Otherwise no one returns your calls. Bring bagels.

Woot! Congrats on the new job.

Maybe the people that calculated the higher property value will also be calculating your paycheck? Never mind, they will probably lower it to balance things out.
