Sarah Palin In addition to being Alaska's youngest governor, was the former mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Starting out in the PTA, She is a lifelong member of the NRA and a hunter, she understands that life starts at conception, she is a Christian, feminist for life, she is for capital punishment and opposes same sex marriage. She is a mother refusing to stay at home who had made a success out in the workplace whose has a success marriage. She has lived a rich, full American life, a true self made woman.
While on city council she supported a sales tax, because it made sense and was needed. When she won as mayor she got rid of people who would not back her, making a unified front. That shows good tough decision making for her post. She looked into banning books with offensive language from the library, then decided against. So she challenges conventions and makes up her own mind.
She took a pay cut, reduced property taxes 40% and improved the roads, sewers and police force, fulfilling a campaign promise for a safer Wasilla. She ran and won re-election. She sought after and got federal funding and used it to further improve the lives of her constituents. This even brought criticism from her now running mate Sen. McCain. Term limits ended her Mayor ship and she ended up backing a nominee other than a relative, because she felt that was better for the community. That shows a lot of courage of conviction.
The, then governer, appointed her to Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, she resigned in disgust after seeing the corruption. And filed formal complaints against her fellow Republicans, they resigned.
This is all before being Governer.
