Language Barrier when in another country.

When your in another country the language barrier can be a very difficult hurdle. As this video clearly shows.

The real story of Thanks Giving (Triumph over socialism)

Back in High School I had an English Teacher who challenged us student in regards to our previous held notion about Thanksgiving. It was one of my first introductions into governmental differences, and how well they work.
With us on the final days before an election with a partisan media, and a very liberal with a heavily socialist supporting past. I thought it would be a good reminder.

Storied Link References at bottom of this page.
Did you know that the first [Plymouth Colony Pilgrim's] Thanksgiving was a celebration of the triumph of private property and individual initiative?

William Bradford was the governor of the original Pilgrim colony, founded at Plymouth in 1621. The colony was first organized on a communal basis, as their financiers required. Land was owned in common. The Pilgrims farmed communally, too, following the "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs" precept.

The results were disastrous. Communism didn't work any better 400 years ago than it does today. By 1623, the colony had suffered serious losses. Starvation was imminent.
Bradford realized that the communal system encouraged and rewarded waste and laziness and inefficiency, and destroyed individual initiative. Desperate, he abolished it. He distributed private plots of land among the surviving Pilgrims, encouraging them to plant early and farm as individuals, not collectively.
The results: a bountiful early harvest that saved the colonies. After the harvest, the Pilgrims celebrated with a day of Thanksgiving -- on August 9th.

Unfortunately, William Bradford's diaries -- in which he recorded the failure of the collectivist system and the triumph of private enterprise -- were lost for many years. When Thanksgiving was later made a national holiday, the present November date was chosen. And the lesson the Pilgrims so painfully learned was, alas, not made a part of the holiday.

Happily, Bradford's diaries were later rediscovered. They're available today in paperback. They tell the real story of Thanksgiving -- how private property and individual initiative saved the Pilgrims.

This Thanksgiving season, one of the many things I'm thankful for is our free market system (imperfectly realized as it is). And I'm also grateful that there are increasing numbers of Americans who are learning the importance of free markets, and who are working to replace government coercion with marketplace cooperation here in America and around the world.

Paul Schmidt

PS: A special thanks to long-time Advocate volunteer Cris Everett, who told us about this neglected bit of history several years ago, and who celebrates Thanksgiving on -- you guessed it -- August 9th.

Life on Mars

The UK comes up with some really cool shows. Sometimes the US will actually do the original series justice in a remake. Life on Mars (ABC Thursday nights) is shaping up to be one of those shows.

Detective Sam Tyler, gets hit by a car in 2008. He wakes up and it is 1973, he is still a NYPD detective, he has a different past and an unsure future. He is trying to figure out what the hell happened, while coping with life and police work in the early 1970's.

For those of us who recall the 1970's it has some amazing moments, great songs and quite a realistic gritty feel that your view through the looking glass gives, it is quite a ride.

His new boss Lieutenant Gene Hunt (Harvey Keitel) has to be one of the more complex characters on television, I could just watch this show to seek what he is going to do next.
Then you have the background mystery of what is going on here. He has glimpses of 2008, visions of his girlfriend (who possibly lost her life). Then add to that the stacking paradox of his being a kid the same time he is an adult in the same town. It is that kind of writing that I love, I have so many questions.
The Original series has concluded, like all good BBC shows it had an ending. If you can get this through Netflix or buy the set on DVD or if you get BBC America check it out. Then wonder why our entertainment industry is so myopic.
Oh, Steve V. I think this is a show you would enjoy. (and it just started)

Creating jobs... um... not really.

Obama on Redistribution of wealth 2001 Radio Interview, My lefty Blogger The Wizard has run quite a few good reads on the Main Stream Media. I highly recommend clicking that link.

His economic predictions are pretty stark. Although, from Obama's stumping speeches to his posted 'plan' for making new jobs, I am tending to see Wiz's point.

Example: How is a $3000.00 tax break going to create one new job? It isn't. If you have a company, you are going hire a new person because you have a need. If it happens to get you a tax break, 'oh goodie' That will cover, two months payroll for this person? Although, for a political propaganda move it is brilliant. It gives you great talking points either way it goes.

The other day, while taking a shower, an idea popped into my mind. Lets say, if you have a parent stay home and you have at least one child age birth to 16. You pay no taxes. I figure you could add something like x number of hours of volunteer time at your kids school or church or shelters, certain public institutions, such as Libraries. Anyways, I thought it was the start of a great idea.

So, what could you do when you were 10?

Betcha it wasnt anything like this.... Wow!

What I do not understand is the polite clapping at the end.

Good things Happening

MSM is saying landslide for Obama. Polls are all over the place. I support McCain Palin and hope for the best. Win or loose some nice things for Republican Conservatives have happened.

Moderates are jumping ship!

The Elite intellectuals in the conservative media kept saying we needed a moderate like McCain if we had any hope of winning the election. We need to Move to the Left. We need a bigger tent. McCain can get moderates and independents and Democrats to join the Republican Party.

...Yeah, I thought it was hogwash as well.

William Weld, Colin Powell, Scott McClellan, Chuck Hagel, recently decided that what they wanted is not what they wanted. Otherwise, moving to the Left does not work.

Back when we took both houses Republicans acted like they were the minority. It was maddening. They also expected to get the same love from the MSM that the democrats enjoyed. McCain found out that the MSM is a fickle mistress if your on the Right.

While I continue to be jaundiced at the MSM and polls that seemingly try to shape opinion rather then report on opinion. I can really see a silver lining in Conservatives taking back the Grand Ole Party.

After all it did take a Carter to get us Reagan. (Obama is a Carter!)

Why Blog?

The other day, while on a walk, I questioned why am I blogging? A few steps later that was drilled down to, Why am I blogging about politics? The reasons my mind laid out for me were: No one is reading this, I really do not like upsetting people, My ideas do not seem to be understood as intended, will this really matter to anyone?
  • My Tina uses her blog as a Diary, I enjoy reading her insights into our mutual experiences.
  • I enjoy Flying Vans adventure and heroics.
  • Vince M's amazing house project,
  • Byron and Paula so I can live vicariously.
  • Ronn to joust, smile and peek into his life.
  • Joe Delta to be fascinated at his insights and logic.
  • Timmer to be confused at what he is on about or to just get irritated sometimes to laugh.
  • Rocky Family for those wonderful twin pictures.
  • George Family for catching up with his home life and ponder at his travels.
There are a few blogs I used to read then stopped because of the tactics employed. Some are no longer perused for health reasons (High blood pressure, Fear of aneurysm etc.)

Among the chaff I am finding some great political blogs that do detail reasons, comment respectfully and demand to be respected in kind. I fully understand a passionate response, less so a vitriol one. Learning to be diplomatic, ignore snide remarks and refraining from the same, does require some practice. Although, there is a time and place...

Anyways, Steve sent me an e-mail, pointing out that people do read bogs, even mine. They may not understand, they may 'get' the mood of the posting and understand that some viewpoints have merit.

Stella pointed out in a comment that "A good Democracy requires civil dissent." and capped that with my own words "We should treat people one way and ideas another"

So thus enabled, I blog onwards, trying to heed my own advice, possibly failing, but always trying. As my mom is so fond of saying. I was a trying child :)

Shoo and the Blog-o-sphere

Shoo, started blogging and drug quite a few of us into cyberspace. Yes, I did discount his influence on my blogging, but that was tongue in cheek.

Shoo was thanked for his tenacity and candor by a Progressive blogger named Stella swiftspeech. Stella received the Uber Blogger award.

I agree that Shoo has an excellent command of presenting and defending his political beliefs, in a thoughtful diplomatic style.

Something I wished I shared. He is more Fred Astaire to my Quasimodo (dance analogy there).

So Congrats Shoo.

$150,000.00 smoke screen

Obama is dropping in the polls. The Main Stream Media (MSM) is supporting Obama to the elimination of any attempt at prefessional balance. This current attempt is another stab, so do not be fooled. A Classy liberal blogger to whom I have come to have great respect for lays out the Media bashing of Palin and why its important.

CNN actually reported this:

CAMPBELL BROWN: ...[F]irst, as we do every night, we’re cutting through the bull -- a lot of sniping and a lot of stories today about Sarah Palin’s clothes. Politico.com reports that the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothes, hair, and makeup for Palin on the campaign trail.

Now, these are not your tax dollars. This is money given by Republican donors to the RNC. But the report questions whether it's legal to use campaign cash for quote,’personal use.’ My issue: there is an incredible double standard here, and we're ignoring a very simple reality. Women are judged based on their appearance far, far more than men. This is a statement of fact. There has been plenty of talk and plenty written about Sarah Palin’s jackets, her hair, her looks. Sound familiar? There was plenty of talk and plenty written about Hillary Clinton’s looks, hair, pantsuits. Compare that to the attention given to Barack Obama’s $1,500 suits or John McCain’s $520 Ferragamo shoes. There is no comparison.

Women get scrutinized based on appearance far more than men, and look, I speak from experience here. When I wear a bad outfit on the air, I get viewer e-mail complaining about it, a lot of e-mail, seriously. When Wolf Blitzer wears a not-so-great tie, how much e-mail do you think he gets? My point is, for women, unfortunately, appearance is part of the job. If Wolf or Anderson shows up on the air without makeup, do you think you would even notice? I show up on the air without makeup, trust me, you’ll notice. This doesn't just apply to TV. All women in the public eye deal with this issue, and it’s for this reason that I think the RNC should help Palin pay for hair, clothes, and makeup. It is part of the job.

Now, you may think that’s an awful lot of money to spend on clothes, hair, and makeup, or you may complain, as some have, it’s hypocritical to sell yourself as a small-town hockey mom when you’re wearing designer clothes. That's fine. Just don't ignore the fact that there is a double standard here and personally, I think, in this campaign, with so much at stake, this is a peripheral issue. I myself have raised plenty of questions about Sarah Palin, much to the annoyance of the McCain campaign. But those questions have been about her qualifications and experience, never her appearance. Let’s keep the focus on what really matters here.

I am wondering why the MSM is ignoring that the Obama campaign deliberately disabled a basic credit card security check feature for donors. Like this example or this one.

Then we have all these polls which historically have been fairly close and now are all over the place. Is the idea that someone already won an election that has not happened supposed to sway people? Vote for a winner?

The press is also non-existant on the 401k butchery going around. The original story has been pulled from http://www.workforce.com/section/00/article/25/83/58 so here is the writeup before the write up. Until I can find another un-censored reference.

Sen. Obama's Socialist beliefs has been revealed by press crucified "Joe the Plumber" what should be the final nail in that coffin is likewise missing from the nightly news, his membership in a socialist party most of that info comes from here.

Folks, if you are counting on the MSM to bring you the facts you are sadly as out of touch as Joe Biden. Among his numerous, mostly unreported, gaffes in the Debate he claimed to go to a nonexistent Katie's Restaurant to learn the wants and needs of the middle class, it went out of business in 1986. Likewise unreported.

And just so you know I am checking various places about the Media Bias. shows I am far from alone.

Romantisizing, re-imagining, villaning with friends.

So, the other day I was watching "My Own Worst Enemy" (stream link here). After that I had some errands to run, or walk, as I have time and its better exercise and less gas.

While I walk I tend to think about shoes and ships and sealing-wax, of cabbages and kings. In this instance, my mind worked around to Shoo and Rob. Two of my oldest, best est friends.

Shoo is into computer software more then Al Gore is into carbon credits. He works for a company that provides a service for people wanting to invest money. In my mind this could easily be a working front for intel gathering. Shoo, being one of the foremost software programmers on the planet, has no doubt, created several Worms that have infiltrated most if not all of the fortune 500 companies and millions of home PCs. Catching rides on various security software, this information is then parsed and organized into filterable categories, some self flagging. This information is then extracted and either sent up for the highest bidder or routed to clients who have this company on retainer.

This self running AI, does require tweaks here and there. Which Shoo lovingly takes care of on the fly. I imagine his office is next to a glass wall filled with Blade Center QS22/LS21 Clusters. His desk is a virtual table with dual hand interface (the completed Milan) .

With the info in his hands and his various AI devices he can hack, control, create and destroy wealth at will.

--

Rob, on the other hand, could be an assassin for a shadow division of NSA. With his businessman\family man cover, he travels the globe to 'friendly' countries working in the best interest of the security of the USA. While he does go out on critical assignments, most of the time he coordinates black ops groups from his cover as a manager. His trained eye and knowledge allow him near instant understanding of situations and how to use them to his tactical advantage.

Oddly enough his division receives information from Shoo, although both do not realize their business lives cross.

Further, this would explain Robs GPS abilities for locating difficult targets in a wide variety of environments. Using the GeoCaching website, Rob gets his divisions marching orders and likewise reports successful closure. This hide in plain sight method is amazingly secure and overlooked by every counter-agency in service. And is the brainchild of Rob.

Chemicals and U

usually I save my creative writing for my other blog. This was just one I felt like sharing.

----
Brisk, that's the word used when it is damn cold and you're in denial. Today was brisk, and I felt the full briskness as I rode my bike to the store. We needed creamer, I needed coffee and I am loathe to drink my morning joe without creamer.

Our fiscal week took a cue from the stock market and plunged. This caused us to rethink a few things here and there. Being an "out of work" job seeker since February has been a less than happy time. We have been doing okay and there has been some enjoyable freedom experienced. Still, part of my self worth is as a provider for my family and watching the world go by from the comfort of my home is not helping my self worth. I have done some odd jobs here and there. I have had some interviews only to be told I was one of the top choices. Which is a nice way of saying "we do NOT want you here"... Yes, there has been some depression along the way.

So anyway, with the fiscals low, Tina and I talked about what more to cut from our "Quality of Life." We have a mental list of things to cut, with a disaster plan as well.

One little thing that we looked at was Coffee Creamer. Coffee is cheap, tasty and saves more lives in a given week then a trauma surgeon. To me, it's proof of the existence of God. Without creamer I can use (sugar free), I have gone without my morning cup-o-mud this week.

The chemicals in Coffee are a stimulant, they bind to the adenosine receptors in the brain and increases the dopamine levels (all good things, despite what Flying Van might say). You get focused, awake and ready for the day! St. Drogo be praised!

When you go without coffee, there is a period when you get headaches. As I headed down the hill, my eyes watering from the "brisk" air, my head did pound out in vascular anger, having been abandoned by java.

It was a good ride, not invigorating; I did get the blood moving, etc. Then I arrived at the grocery store. This particular national chain has a nice warm interior with shelves going East West all filled and faced with various foods and sundry items that make all our lives a little more comfortable. As I walked down the aisle with my caffeine-deprived headache and overall hypothermia, the rows and rows took on an unreal aspect. I imagined every different colored label promising things in whispers. I could see phantom time passing with these items going off the shelf and being restocked. I curiously wondered where that bottle of Pine-sol would find itself.

I did not really have any concept of the passing of time in my surreal shopping spree, as my mind would keep wondering who would buy all this crap. They have two shelving units full of soft drinks with a center kiosk filled with snack foods. The floor there is painted to resemble a drag strip.

I finished my shopping and the haze that I felt must have been apparent, because this nice checker person offered to run me through the self check out. I got the feeling she did not think I could handle this new-fangled contraption on my own. While she was checking on something, I just scanned and bagged the items myself. That will show her...

or not. Anyway I got on my bike and rode over hill and dale to make it back to my warm cozy home. Now to make a cup of coffee and enjoy the warm cup in my hands. I bet it will taste "Brisk."

Main Stream Media loosing viewers

In what can only be a good thing, less people are watching the very people I blame for class envy, the blue red state myth, and the ones that stuck us with McCain and Obama.

NEWS w/ Couric shed a half a million viewers, falling from 6.4 million to 5.9 million.
ABCNEWS dropped from 8.1 million to 7.6 million.
NBCNEWS slumped from 8.2 million to 7.8 million.

How tragic it is to see Collin Powell sell out for a job with Obama. His stated reasons make zero sense. One can only ponder what he means by "this is a historic election" and his affirming that race has nothing to do with his choice. By this obvious dancing around the issues and not being honest, I have lost quite a bit of respect for him.

Close Race for Prez

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/RCP_PDF/BG_102108_2-way-ballot-trender.pdf

The Battleground Poll is showing Obama by 1 point. Sen. Biden was pulled off the campaign trail today as well (I wonder why?).

Could it be for the same reason that they are not going to release his health records?

Filmmaker Oliver Stones film "W" has tanked. I think it is because its a film no one is interested in seeing. MSM is saying it is because of the bad economy keeping people from the movies.

Um.. that Chihuahua movie is doing good box office and Max Payne is as well. Just two weeks ago the MSM was saying the economy may be tanking, but the box office remains healthy.

Seeing as Mr. Stones films are pure fiction yet purports to be fact has always been irksome. So I cannot help but smile.

October 18, 2008

Say goodbye to Prez election debate.

Got my ballot and because we only have fraud by mail voting here.

I am for McCain+Palin as I feel they have the most experience and a better record for going against the status quo in Washington. They are a nice balance of liberal and conservative, which will work great with Congress.

Obama has no experience, questionable judgement in relationships and is too socialist in views. Biden has something seriously wrong with him and should seek help.

As such there is not any reason to debate who would make a better president. To me that's pretty obvious by now. McCain.

I will probably post something grand on Nov 5Th when McCain wins

News you can use.

More fair and balanced humor.

Saint Gormand of the restricted bowels.

This is Brad Sciullo he is 5-foot-11, 180-pound.
The item in the foreground is the Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser: a 15-pound burger with toppings and a bun that brought the total weight to 20.2 pounds.

Brad "ate that thang" in 4 hours and 39 minutes.

Back in the day I was not unlike Michael Phelps. That is to say I was in swimming, I was a swimmer. Being a So. Cal. boy having a pool was not an oddity. Hours upon hours did the chlorinated water entertain myself and my friends.

Physically I was in pretty good shape. Now I am trying to recapture that old shape. *sigh*. During this period of time I could consume mass amounts of food without it clinging tenaciously to my body as stored fat. Also, I could go for a full day without eating and feel fine. I would drink Coke by the liter as well. Life was good.

If I went to McDonald's for lunch I would typically get two quarter pounders, a large fry, a Large Coke (no refills then), Strawberry Shake, Apple pie. Then I would wonder if I should get a regular cheeseburger, just to top off.

I could eat a Large Shakeys pizza solo or consume a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese with a Quesadilla with sour cream and salsa. In my prime, my stomach acid was the universal solvent.

During this era I was six foot and between 185 and 190 lbs. Never did I come across anyone who could eat as much food in the short amount of time I could. Save one.

Jim V. (Brother of Flying Van) was that person. He was around 5'10" and 130 lbs. (guessing). He could power down, what seemed like, half his body weight in one sitting. Impressive amounts of food. From what I have spotted he is still slight of frame as well. Genetics are in his favor there.

If you look up the Gastro Athletes you see that the best of them are these skinny guys that look way too small to do what they do. Laws of Irony at work eh?

Guud ole 'merkan Engrish,

I have this 'thing' about writing. My mind will come up with something and I will formulate everything I want to say in a large mass, when I finally get to the computer and begin typing it is a long flow of consciousness to get all this stuff out of my brain then onto the page.

Usually I will go back through the mess and parse it into better sentences and eliminate redundant stuff. I usually edit out about one-third of what I organically wrote.

Then I publish the post and immediately go back into the posts and edit and spell check. Yes, I could spell check before I publish, I have in the past done just that. The bulk of the time I totally just forget about that or my mouse clicking hand decided to go about its business without input from my mind.

Spell check is important because most of the time there are words that I have no clue how to spell. Words like their, aren't you're are an example. Other words I will type out something close and the spell checker ignores because it is a real word.

Punctuation completely eludes me. I do get the sentence ends (.?!) although I will extend a sentence until it crosses the Pacific ocean. So writing I am more about content then grammar and punctuation and spelling.

In order to 'improve' this aspect of my writing I am going to try Lynne Truss as a mentor. I'll let you be the judge if it helps.

Obama supporters on the street.

My own worse enemy.

Christian Slater is someone who's acting I really enjoy. This goes way back to Heathers (great film, go Netflix it right now).

He is now transitioning to Television in an odd exodus that we see. The new Show is called "My own worst enemy" You can catch the stream here to get caught up.

Yes, it has some high concepts around creating a split personality. Mr. Slater, really pulls off the dual roles well.

So, if you want to have some good escapist fare. Here is my recommendation.

Why Hate?

Dictionary.net: To have a great aversion to, with a strong desire that evil should befall the person toward whom the feeling is directed.

My Mom and Pop did not allow the term hate to be associated to a person without cause. I could not hate my teacher. I could hate the homework.

Cause would be hating someone who stole my bike. Or hating Hitler for having killed six million people.

So I keep reading more and more people of note saying they Hate Sarah Palin. While I can see someone not liking or not understanding her positions on issues, I just cannot wrap my head around personal hatred towards her. Or, is it sexism?

Then take Obama, when anyone states hatred towards him it is defined racism. Or the idea that someone would hate him is offensive.

Leave your hatred elsewhere for things and people that are deserving. Leave Propaganda out of discourse.

Seriously.

A rose by another name would wither and die.

Seances, talking to the dead, palm reading, psychic mediums have been debunked time and time again. We use terms like, fake, flim flam, liars, cheaters etc.

Guys like Houdini, Randi, and C. Angel expose them for what they are. If you add a skilled magician to your scientific research group you will find no evidence that even remotely suggests that any of the above is possible.

So, if you just drop psychic medium and put on Analyst your suddenly on the news channels spouting out stuff that is contrived but accepted. I think we should refer to analysts with terms like, fake, flim flam, liars, cheaters etc.

October 13, 2008

Just so you know.

Ethanol is not a good idea.

Gun Control increases Crime. Gun ownership reduces crime.

Global Warming is not man made, it might be man induced, it might not be.

Minimum wage hurts more people then it helps.

Government ownership of industry is socialism.

The people who run our government and run for president should be treated with the same respect you expect from others.

The nature of man is good.

You cannot quantify God. As there is no basis for understanding everything.

Conservation is a good thing. Excluding man from nature is a bad thing.

Wars should be fought to total victory. They should be destructive and bloody to the point that no one wants one to occur. Nice wars (rules of engagement) do nothing more then degrade diplomatic processes.

The Government is of the people by the people. The Church is a community of people. In trying to separate church from state you are trying to separate people from people.

Face to face discussions (arguments) lead to common ground. Blog arguments lead to scorched earth. The latter should change.

Tolerance is intolerant. Rather be egalitarian regarding persons. Be elitist regarding ideas.

Abortion is a harsh topic because knowing where life begins lacks common ground. Erring on the side of life is not considered practical.

Great idea to solve.

So, I was reading a friend of mines blog about how screwed we are no matter how the mortgage mess is resolved, then I had a brilliant idea.

This is very win win. Currently, the congress has 100 senators and 434 congress peoples. Their total yearly salary is $ 90,575,500.00.

So, what we do is have Congress pay off the troubled mortgage principal and gives the deed to whomever used to be paying the bank. This is then deducted from the salary across the board.

The taxpayer is about as removed from this as they can get. The guys get houses (home ownership is good) the banks get their money back (Money to bank is good).

Tadaa!

October 10, 2008

Someone bought stocks.

Looks like investors had an idea that when the Dow dipped below 8000 it was time to buy. We actually ended with a small surge today.
Could be a turn around, could be just a blip. I guess what happens Monday will tell more of the tale.
Interesting enough, there is tons of Doom talk out there, which means panic, which means the idea that doing something is better then not. I keep recalling that everyone says the stock market is a long term deal, by that reckoning the market is still above the 1998 levels.
In a week the market has dropped down to where it was after a drop in September 2002, only to recover in January 2003.
What does it mean? It could mean to look at gold instead of stocks, it could mean to make sure you spread any cash you have over 250,000 to different banks (to make sure FDIC covers you). It could mean that those stocks of value are great deals to buy!
Most of all, watch the market come the start of next week and realize Panic doesn't help.

Evolution Finally!

Suddenly it all makes sense to me.

When it comes to Darwin the 'believe this theory and only this theory or shut up and be shunned' attitude of proponents and educators that is irksome.

So today I read that Man finished evolving. I guess that means that the evolutionary process stagnates at some point, possibly as we reach perfection?

So, look all about you when your at the Shopping mall and behold the perfection that is Mankind!

Life, Liberty, Health Care and pursuit of happiness.

Health care as a Right. I am not sure of the origin of that concept, other then some way of making an argument more provocative.

I am not sure that it is up there in important. There is a mandate that Emergency Rooms see to it that certain health issues are handled despite ability to pay.

So I am pondering what other items are more needed as a right. Food and shelter as a right? After air that is next on the needs list.

How about the Right for transportation? There is really a need to get from point A to point B for employment, food and shelter.

The Right to adequate clothing? It kind of goes with shelter, in some climates it is survival.

It becomes difficult to keep this on a serious tract. As now I am thinking of things like; the right to be safe.

Education is the key to the future.

University's have some kind of barrier about money and what they do behind the academic curtain. There is an idea that getting everyone to go to collage would make for higher wages and a better way of life.

The most popular major is Business. Followed by Social Sciences: (anthropology, economics, geography, sociology and political science).

So where do you go to become a tool and die maker? How about a sheet metal worker? A machinist? Someone who has the ability to take something on a drawing and make it a practical reality?

It takes about the same time to become a doctor as to become a tool and die maker. There are much fewer grants and scholorships available for this vocation and you really need a certain degree of talent.

Education is the key to the future, but you need to say the correct education.

I am seeing a time when your artisan craftsmen are going to demand the highest salary.

Anyone feel like Jimmy Carter is prez?

I got all nostalgic for Alan Greenspan today. Ronald Reagan appointed him chairman of the Federal Reserve. What a bumpy road he traveled. Still, we did not see double digit inflation rear its ugly head while he was at the helm. That was a horrid nasty time.
He studied Clarinet and saxophone at Julliard. Played sax with Stan Gertz (if you know Jazz). Got his PHD in Economics from New York University, tutored under Fed Reserve Chairman Arthur Burns. He worked with Ayan Rand in the 1950's.
I am thinking whomever becomes president is going to need an a top notch economic advisor.

Aside from questionable associations the whole ACORN and Obama business seems to be MSM ignored.

First Obama's website claims he was never an ACORN community organizer. He was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity. Further ACORN was not part of Project Vote, the successful voter registration drive Barack ran in 1992.

Sweetness and Light connects the dots. Showing with documentation Obama's less then presidential involvement in ACORN. Hear the crickets from the MSM?

Makes one wonder what other items on the Obama site are more "Fight the Truth" instead of "Fight the Smear"

Stem Cell Research

When someone tells you someone is against Stem Cell Research. You may want to clarify what they are talking about. The controversial Stem Cells come from embryos. Which means you either had to get them from the umbilical cord or harvest babies yet to be born for them. Hence the ethical dilemma.

Pluripotent stem cells are these near magical cells that are capable of becoming any kind of tissue. Until last november it was thought you could only get these from the above method.

Then comes Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University in Japan who in looking for the reason why embryonic stem cells worked identified 24 genes that make the difference. So they plopped combinations of the 24 into the DNA of adult skin cells (using mice). Through this they found that four genes will turn adult cells into stem cells.

They did it again using human adult skin cells using the same four genes. It worked.

This makes the nightmare ethics of harvesting the unborn moot. Along with quite a few arguments.

(Planned Parenthood might be in angst over the loss of a revenue stream...)

Health Care

I was reading up on the two plans for consideration for improving health care. Yes, I like McCains better. So accept that bias in my writing.

With McCain I wonder how much insurance I can buy for my family with $5000.00. I Like that the plan includes malpractice reform, as that is one thing that drives doctor fee's way up. Also being able to get insurance nationally over statewide is huge.

Depending upon your focus the tax credit has some problems. Lets say there is a family that views the $5000.00 should be spent on a Disneyland vacation instead of insurance. Further that same year someone in that family comes down with a deadly but treatable illness or injury. Who gets the bill? The next year there would be another $5000.00 that would be used for insurance, yet, this is a pre-existing condition.

While one side of me says, "Hey, they made the choice, you have to accept responsibly" another side of me knows that compassion would take over.

This is what I see happening. Businesses opt out of carrying insurance for employee's and instead offer extended coverage as a benefit package to entice people to work for them. So see a rise in Dental, Vision, and special coverage. Hospitals are going to want some kind of option for compensation for non-insured. Also, look for fly by night insurance companies.

Obama's plan for government run insurance raises a big red flag. To start I have seen quite a few disputes of his math for paying the costs and any government run system costs more and more over time. Also, if it turns out to be a very bad idea, there is no way to get rid of a government agency.

While it has manditory insurance for children, you can see a few collage age kids opting out. Look for Meningitis's to increase. Then again, why opt out when its only costing the rich?

There is quite a few things that require better definition, for instance, he says that small business can be exempt from providing insurance. Without saying what small, med and large business means. I can see the as being a huge exploitable whole. As is the cap on insurance company profits.

So look for companies to divide into 'Small companies' to avoid insurance. Look for the government run health care to grow in size and taxes to increase. Without malpractice reform and knowing that the government has deep pockets, look for law suits to increase and payouts to increase. Doctors and nurses jobs will be cost eliminated and CNA's will be the bulk of hospital staff. Also, a new industry of doctors specializing in treatment of the rich will appear, as the lines for government care go up and up, a cash and carry doctor will start appearing. Doctors who are in the government system will leave to be replaced by the lesser skilled.

Then look for government to 'fix', 'reform' and change this overtime.

of course, I could be wrong.

Schools Paradigm

I am a fairly strong advocate for my fifth grader. He is the first of many who are recognized as autistic who are going through our public school system. I am finding that most of our special educational teachers have little or no training when it comes to Autism.

Further, there is a denial about getting or needing such training, a resistance if you will. This is only overcome by badgering and insistence and\or finding someone new enough to the system that they welcome training opportunities.

As I work with and against this system, I start to get an underlying understanding about why things are the way they are. I also get better at pointing these patterns out and getting buy-in to what I am advocating.

Special Education teachers are usually trained in modifying kids behavior. They have set in their minds cause, effect relationships and methodology for dealing with unwanted behavior. The behaviors they deal with willful, malicious, attention demanding or otherwise inappropriate for to the child's stage of development. The goal is to stop the behavior by ignoring or punishment followed by introducing more acceptable behavior and reinforcing.

Autism works differently then this. What can appear to be willful or malicious or attention demanding, is not always the case. My Connor, for example, has difficulty understanding when kids are being mean to him. If a child lashes out at him or treats him badly he will stay away from that child more out of confusion. He really has no concept of being malicious.

Lets say you are in a country where you do not understand the language, gestures or culture. Someone approaches you says something, it escalates, despite your effort and you wind up in jail. You are taken someplace else where people again speak at you then punish you physically and throw you back into jail. This pattern is repeated despite what you try to do.

You can imagine the frustration, how would you react? how would you react over time?

Get out, give up or die. None of which are the desired goal.
